Balangoda Plantations Limited has constructed an ultra-modern factory to process green tea at Gowerakelle Estate in Demodara, which lies in the world-famous Uva tea district. The factory's innovative architectural style blends with the surrounding lush green tea fields. The new factory, which began production in June 2002, is equipped with more advanced equipment than the conventional tea factories of Sri Lanka. Initial production is focussed on Chinese green tea, with plans in the near future for the production of Japanese green tea and Oolong tea.
