Balangoda Plantations is comprised of two
clusters of 23 estates, spread over an area of 13,000 hectares.
The Plantations straddle two tea-growing provinces - Uva and
Sabaragamuwa - with rubber in the Ratnapura district. The teas
from these plantations provide the diversity of flavours that
Stassen seeks to provide its customers. Sabaragamuwa's capital
is Ratnapura, which means 'city of gems.' The geological belt
of precious stones for which Sri Lanka is famous lies here.
Some of the famous estates:
| |
Pettiagalle
estate
The estate has produced exceptionally fruity tea with
a taste that many compare to jam - and is ideal with cakes
and scones for afternoon tea. Best taken plain, or with
a slice of lemon. |

|
| |
Gowerakelle
estate
Gowerakelle's crystal-clear liquor has a hue varying from
orange-green to pale-pink, and the monsoon season imbues
it with a long lasting burst of flavour, making a pleasant
after-dinner drink that settles the digestive system. |
| |
|
| |
Meddakande
estate
With a light liquor and distant honey aroma, the OP1 has
a lingering, refreshing aftertaste. Perfect for releasing
tension in the afternoon. To be taken without milk. |

|
| |
Wewesse
estate
Wewesse produces a connoisseur's drink that is strong,
characterful and flavoursome, showing good colour in the
cup. |
In addition to tea, 1800 hectares of land are under rubber cultivation,
focusing mainly on the production of latex and crepe rubber.
Future plans include increasing the extent of rubber cultivation
in order to produce centrifuged latex rubber - a commodity in
high demand for the manufacture of quality rubber products.
