Export
Production Villages
In 1982, we inaugurated the Dambandeniya Export Production Village (EPV) and the Tissamaharama Export Production Village (EPV) in two destitute rural communities. Recognising the EPVs' potential for growth and development, we took advantage of their inherent weaving skills to develop the ideal environmentally friendly hand woven reed packaging for our organic tea exports. Today the two EPVs are flourishing in their production of reed packaging with 2800 female producer shareholders.
Welfare Project
Alongside our environmentally friendly policy on the organic
tea estates, we also sponsor an innovative community-based
social development programme. We have a dedicated team attending
to worker welfare, providing healthcare, sanitation, good
living conditions, education, and recreation for the workers.
Maternal care and child welfare are priorities, and community
development has included organising a rural bank, constructing
new houses, pioneering income-generating products and providing
counselling services.
