Organic
Tea
At our two organic tea gardens, Idulgalshinna and Venture, we practise 'sustainable farming' where cultivation is carried out without the use of chemically synthesized fertilizers, pesticides and insecticides. We conform to standards set by the International Federation of Organic Agriculture Movement (IFOAM). We also use biodynamic methods, where organic nutrients are applied to the plants and soil to enhance growth, yield a good harvest and create resistance against pests and diseases. Cultivation practices are carried out according to the biodynamic calendar.
Coir
In Sri Lanka, large quantities of coconut residue (coir pith)
posed a threat to the environment for many years. Therefore,
we decided to convert this potential environmental hazard
into a benefit by converting it into coir briquettes. These
briquettes are a highly renewable resource that can be used
as a moisture retainer, a soil ameliorant and a superior growing
medium. Renowned for their high quality, these briquettes
have attracted professional growers and greenhouse farmers
in Japan, Australia and Europe.
